About us

We first visited Slovenia on our honeymoon in summer 2006. Luke - born and raised in Montana, USA, was immediately smitten by its natural beauty, and Magdalena - born and raised in Czechia, felt right at home with its Slavic roots. We fell in love with this small country,  and its big-hearted people.

After years of finding excuses to just get to come and visit, we picked up the lemons life had hurtled at us, and made the best kind of lemonade we could have dreamt of: in 2020 we relocated to Slovenia full time, and eventually established Two River House.

After three years of searching for just the right place we were captivated by Luče's simple charm, and made a quick decision to buy this small cozy 1900 built house right next to one of the rivers. The night after we signed the contract Slovenia was hit by the worst flooding in recorded history, Luče being among the most devastated areas. More lemons?

It is fitting that this house we had sought to be a place of intentional pausing, refreshment, and of connecting with God and one another, should come from a place of such disaster. Because sometimes life gets unbearably heavy. Not just lemons thrown at us, but lemon juice squeezed right into our eyes. Disagreements. Disappointments. Discouragements. And then we have a choice. Do we let it pass, and rebuild? Or do we get taken away with it?

Just as we have walked through seasons of destruction, we have also experienced the miracle of renewed hope, and witnessed the joy of rising up again. And that is just one of the reasons why we'd love to invite you to Luče, to come and stay at Two River House.
